Simen Brenne (born March 17, 1981 in Fredrikstad ) is a Norwegian football player .

Club career

Brenne started his career at the sports club Selbak TiF from his hometown Fredrikstad. In 2000 he signed his first professional contract with Moss FK . At the beginning still a substitute, he made his breakthrough in his second professional season in 2002 and scored 6 goals this season as a striker. When Moss was relegated to the Adeccoligaen as the penultimate in the 2003 season, he remained loyal to his club as one of the few players. But Moss could not cope with the many departures after relegation and then played until the end against relegation from the second division. In the end, they only just held the class with 12th place.

As a result, he returned to his hometown to Fredrikstad FK, which had just made it to the Tippeligaen . At Fredrikstad he was transformed from a striker to an attacking midfielder, a position he had played in his youth. Thereupon he finally established himself in Norwegian football and brought strong performances over 3 seasons. As a highlight, he was able to celebrate winning the Norwegian Cup in 2006. In the final, Sandefjord Fotball was defeated 3-0.

Then it was sold on to Lillestrøm SK for the equivalent of around € 400,000 . A strong debut season, which also brought him a call-up to the Norwegian national team , was followed by a disaster season in which Lillestrøm narrowly escaped relegation with 12th place in the table. Brenne injured himself early in the season and kept following his form throughout the season.

After the almost descent, Lillestrøm was restructured and the expensive Brenne was approved. As a result, he moved to Odd Grenland within the league in 2009 . There he found his strength again and scored 8 goals in 24 appearances.

National team

As part of the Norwegian federation's youth scouting concept, Brenne already made two appearances in 1997 in his country's U-15 youth team. There followed 3 years without a call-up before he returned to a youth team as a Moss player. After strong performances in the league, in the same year he was promoted to the U-21 team, whose squad he was part of until 2003.

On March 24, 2007 he made his debut in qualifying for the 2008 European Championship in Austria and Switzerland in a 2-1 draw against the Bosnian-Herzegovinian national soccer team for Norway . In the follow-up game on March 28, 2007 against Turkey , he scored his first goal to mean 1-0 for Norway.

After his 5th appearance for Norway in the friendly against Wales on February 6, 2008, he was no longer nominated for the national team due to poor performance at the club.

After he stabilized his performance at Odd Greenland again, he counts in the qualification for the 2010 World Cup again to the extended circle of the national team.

On September 5, 2009, he made his comeback for Norway in the game against Iceland .
