The Microsoft Surface Pro 4 is a convertible PC from Microsoft , which was announced on October 6, 2015 at a hardware event and has been available in Germany since the end of November 2015 .

Technical specifications

The Microsoft Surface Pro 4 has a 12.3 inch "PixelSense" IPS display with a resolution of 2,736 × 1,824 pixels, which leads to a pixel density of 267 pixels per inch. The display is also compatible with n-trig technology, which supports active input pens such as the Surface Pen.

Either the Intel Core m3-6Y30, the Intel Core i5-6300U or the Intel Core i7-6600U are used as the processor , which is supported by 4, 8 or 16 gigabytes of RAM, depending on the variant. The processor is cooled by a specially developed hybrid cooling system. The mass storage device is either 128, 256, 512 or 1024 gigabytes in size. The graphics unit is integrated in the processor and thus varies depending on the variant. The m3 version uses the Intel HD Graphics 515, the i5 version uses the Intel HD Graphics 520 and the i7 version uses the Intel Iris Graphics.

The Surface Pro 4 has a USB 3.0 port, a mini DisplayPort , a Surface Connect port for charging and connecting the Surface Dock, and a headphone jack. The internal memory can be expanded using the microSD card reader. A connection to other devices can also be established wirelessly via WLAN and Bluetooth 4.0.

A 5 megapixel digital camera and an infrared camera for biometric face recognition for unlocking are attached to the front . There is an 8 megapixel digital camera with autofocus on the back.

The case of the Surface Pro 4 is made of a magnesium alloy, which according to Microsoft is particularly robust and light. The front is made of Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

Surface Type Cover

The Surface TypeCover is a keyboard that is connected to the underside of the Surface. In addition to the chiclet design buttons, there is also a glass touchpad on the TypeCover. Among other things, there was also a variant with a fingerprint sensor.

Surface Pen

The Surface Pen 4 is an active input pen, which enables input on the display of the Surface Pro 4. The technology comes from n-trig.

Surface Dock

The Surface Dock is a docking station that connects to the Surface Pro 4 using the SurfaceConnect port. The user then has four additional USB 3.0 ports, two additional DisplayPort connections, an RJ-45 socket and a headphone connection available. The Surface Pro 4 is supplied with power and charged via the Surface Dock power supply unit.
