Microtendipes pedellus is a mosquito within the family of mosquitoes (Chironomidae).

features

The mosquitoes are about 6 millimeters long. Her body has a distinctive greenish-white and black-brown pattern. On the abdomen, the first tergite is greenish-white, the second black-brown, the third and fourth again greenish-white, but with a narrow dark transverse band on the front edge, the fifth to eighth tergite is black-brown. A dark transverse band runs in the middle of the wing. The thorax is black-brown. The thighs ( femora ) of the front legs have two rows of strong bristles facing the body.

Way of life and distribution

The animals are found in large parts of Europe. The larvae develop in large lakes as in most species of the genus Microtendipes .
