An aircraft collision in the air (English: mid-air collision ) is an aircraft accident in which an aircraft comes into contact with another aircraft in the air. Such a collision usually leads to the crash of at least one of the aircraft involved.

After a series of collisions in the air in the 1950s, the Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) was developed from 1956 , which was finally introduced in the USA at the end of the 1980s.
