Handbook Germany

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Handbook Germany is a multilingual information platform for refugees and immigrants in Germany. The project sponsor has been the New German Media Makers Association since the end of 2016 . The site is sponsored by the Federal Government Commissioner for Migration, Refugees and Integration . Partners are Deutsche Telekom and Adobe Inc. The platform is a further development of the refugees.telekom.de portal, which was developed by Deutsche Telekom in 2015.

In terms of content, the platform is supported by partners such as Deutsche Welle , authorities, associations and initiatives.

The information platform is optimized for mobile devices in order to do justice to the media habits of its target group. All content is available in German , English , Farsi , Pashto , French , Turkish and Arabic . A peer-to-peer approach is followed when editing the content and communicating with users . Instead of communicating at an institutional level, the information is researched, edited and presented by people from the respective communities.

Links to news portals from WDR and SWR also make further current information accessible. By working with the online platform wefugees.de, refugees can participate directly in the discussion forum.

Content

The platform offers refugees and immigrants in general an orientation aid in everyday life in Germany. The information platform currently covers four different areas: In the "Life" category, everyday information is conveyed, e.g. B. on vaccination protection , waste separation or rest periods. The "Learning" category provides information on training , studies and German courses or German as a foreign language . The category "Rights and Laws" deals with the basics of German asylum law as well as the basics of democracy , such as B. the electoral system and minority rights . The "Working" category provides information on German labor law , labor market integration and the recognition of foreign qualifications . The platform also bundles appropriate offers of help and information from authorities, aid organizations and associations. All editorial content is available in German , English , Pashto , French , Turkish , Farsi and Arabic .

In addition to the information videos, animated clips are published in the series "Phrase of the Day" in which the performers use German idioms such as: B. Explain "I like you" or "I'm dog tired".

In 2017, the Federal Government referred to the Handbook Germany and two other projects with regard to the importance of the media in creating values in the integration process and stated that such projects make "a valuable contribution to integration , social participation and creating values ".

target group

The website should differ from similar orientation offers in that it is addressed to specific target groups. The weekly information videos only feature protagonists from the Arabic, Farsi-French, Pashto and Turkish-speaking communities. This peer-to-peer approach is intended to increase the credibility of the information conveyed. In addition, the editorial staff consists largely of professional journalists who have fled to Germany from Syria, Afghanistan and Iran. So they not only speak the platform's target languages, but also know the problems and needs of people from their communities better than others.

Publication channels

The video content is mainly distributed via social media channels such as Facebook , Instagram and Twitter . Since social media is mainly used in the target group for contact with friends and acquaintances, the former should be better reached in this way. In addition, the peer-to-peer approach of the project is strengthened in this way , since communication is not carried out via official bodies and channels, but on an equal footing with users. The design of the website is also geared towards mobile use.

Award

In 2017, Handbook Germany was awarded the “Best Engagement of an Initiative / Institution” by the Medien & Migration NRW project as part of the Film Festival Cologne .

In 2018 Handbook Germany was awarded the German Digital Award 2018 for Branded Content (bronze) from the Bundesverband Digitale Wirtschaft (BVDW) eV.
