The Middle East Journal (MEJ) is in Washington, DC by the Middle East Institute published English-language journal . The first issue appeared in 1947, making it the oldest peer- reviewed journal in the US that deals with the Middle East today .
The journal appears quarterly. It analyzes and reports on the political and economic development, on the cultural heritage and the ethnic and religious diversity of the Middle East.
The Middle East Institute defines the Middle East as a region that spans southwest Asia and northern Africa , from Morocco to Pakistan , including the Caucasus region . The Middle East Journal therefore covers all of these areas in terms of content, even if the Middle East is a smaller region in Germany.
