Middle Island is an approximately 20 hectare small island in the South Atlantic , located between Nightingale Island and Stoltenhoff Island . It is part of the Tristan da Cunha archipelago and thus belongs to the British overseas territory of St. Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha .
The island has always been uninhabited. Its name comes from its location "in the middle" between the islands of Nightingale and Stoltenhoff.
