Mier (municipality)
Mier is a former local church in the ZF Mgcawu district , Northern Cape Province , South Africa . In 2011 the population was 7,003 on a total area of 11,730 km². The seat of the municipal administration was Mier .
Sea is the Afrikaans term for "sea". When the first German missionaries visited this area, the depressions were so full of water that they were called the sea . A sound shift turned it into Mier.
At almost 99 percent, Mier was the municipality with the highest proportion of Afrikaans-speaking inhabitants in South Africa. In 2016, the community was incorporated into the newly founded Local Municipality Dawid Kruiper .
