Tenants' Association

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tenants' associations (also: Mietvereine) are in Germany associations of tenants . They represent the interests of tenants in the catchment area of their association (for example, when setting the rent index ) and provide information on all questions relating to tenancy law. To that extent, they perform consumer protection tasks.

As a member of the association, free advice and cheaper out-of-court representation are possible. In addition, members often have the option of taking out reduced legal expenses insurance only for rental disputes.

Many tenants 'associations have come together through regional associations , which in turn belong to the German Tenants' Association (DMB) as an umbrella organization . Throughout Germany, 320 local tenant associations are organized in the DMB. The largest tenants 'associations include the Berlin tenants' association with - according to their own statements - 170,000 members, the tenants 'association in Munich (68,000 members) and the tenants' association in Hamburg (66,000 members).

State associations and federal associations also represent the interests of tenants in the legislative process as a lobbying association , for example in the legislation on the basic security law , while the local tenant associations can also bring the tenants' interests into account in urban planning issues. In this respect, they are opposed to the clubs and associations of the landlords who have come together under the name Haus und Grund .

In addition, associations have mostly formed in larger cities that also offer legal advice to tenants, but have not joined an association and sometimes do not participate in political participation.
