The association is represented by an honorary board. This is currently headed by the chairwoman Beatrix Zurek and the deputy chairmen Christoph Frey and Anne Hübner. Each member is elected for four years by the general assembly. The management has been held by Volker Rastätter since 2016.

Focus of work

The association represents the interests of tenants to the exclusion of party political efforts. In particular, he advocates the implementation of a social and ecological housing and rent policy as well as the housing industry. The rights and interests of tenants and tenants should come first in all areas of renting, leasing and housing. In addition, the association is committed to the maintenance and expansion of housing and settlement cooperatives as well as housing stocks owned by the public sector.

Current focus

In 2013, the Free State of Bavaria sold around 30,000 social apartments from the GBW housing company to a consortium of 27 investors led by Patrizia AG from Augsburg . Since then, rents have increased regularly, which is a major problem for many residents. The tenants' association Munich also represents GBW tenants and uses the legal options for tenant protection.

The tenants' association was one of the sponsors of the tenant demo #ausspekulum, during which 11,000 people demonstrated in Munich against gentrification and rising rents in September 2018 . In addition, the association initiated the popular initiative "# 6JahreMietenstopp" for Bavaria.

On October 15, 2019, the Munich Tenants' Association won the first nationwide model declaratory action in tenancy law.
