Migdal Oz

Migdal Oz ( Hebrew מגדל עוז) is an Israeli settlement in the West Bank with 313 inhabitants (2004). In 1994 Migdal Oz had 221 inhabitants. Migdal Oz belongs to the religious kibbutz movement. "The .. name Migdal Oz means" tower of strength, strong tower "and is named after the biblical use of this name for God as protector, e.g. in Psalm 61.4" .

history

The settlement was founded in 1977 and belongs to the Gush Etzion settlement block .

Migdal Oz is partly on the land of the Palestinian village of al-Khader. Since the establishment of the settlement, land has been gradually confiscated from the Palestinian village of Bait Ummar in order to expand the settlement to the west, a total of almost 2,000 dunams .

On August 8, 2019, the body of a Talmud student was found near the settlement. The victim is 19-year-old Dvir Sorek from the Ofra settlement. He studied at a Talmud school in Migdal Oz. The victim's grandfather was the victim of a terrorist attack in October 2000.
