Mihran Poghosjan ( Armenian Միհրան Պողոսյան ; born May 29, 1976 in Yerevan , Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic , USSR ) is an Armenian politician and major general of the judiciary. He has currently fled to Russia.

Career

Poghosjan studied economics at the Yerevan State University between 1993 and 1998 . In this department he continued his academic career at the Moscow International University (MNEPU), where he also obtained his doctorate in 2006.

Between 2000 and 2006, Poghosjan worked as the security officer of Armenia in the city administration of Yerevan and then until 2007 as the chief security officer of the internationally unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic .

In 2007, Poghosjan was promoted to deputy foreclosure authority in the Ministry of Justice of Armenia, before taking over the management of this body in June 2008. In 2012, President Serzh Sargsyan promoted him to Major General of Justice.

In April 2016, Poghosjan resigned from his position in the wake of the Panama Papers revelations. According to the dossier published, Poghosjan is a shareholder in three companies registered in Panama , including Sigtem Real Estates Incorporated, Hopkinten Trading Incorporated and Bangio Invest SA. In the same year, the Special Investigation Service of Armenia initiated criminal proceedings against him for corruption and misappropriation of public funds. Poghosyan fled to Russia and evaded prosecution. But in April 2019 he was arrested in Karelia , Russia . The Armenian security authorities then applied for his extradition, to which Poghosjan responded with an application for political asylum in Russia. A final decision has not yet been made.
