Miguel Ángel Treviño Morales

Miguel Ángel Treviño Morales , aka Z-40 (born November 18, 1970 in Nuevo Laredo ), is a former Mexican drug lord and leader of Los Zetas , a criminal organization notorious for its violence.

Criminal career

At the end of the 1990s he was accepted as a member of Los Zetas without having had any military training. From 2005 he took control of drug trafficking in Nuevo Laredo. Until mid-2012 he led an internal power struggle against Heriberto Lazcano , a major drug lord of Los Zetas.

His younger brother Oscar Omar Treviño Morales (aka Z-42 ) is also considered a senior member of Los Zetas. Another brother, José Treviño Morales , was arrested on June 12, 2012 in the United States on suspicion of money laundering . He is said to have extended the criminal activities of the drug cartel to the United States by breeding racehorses with financial support from his two brothers and laundering money through horse racing.

Treviño Morales was on the list of the 37 most wanted drug lords in Mexico . The Mexican government offered a reward of two million US dollars for information leading to his arrest and the US one of five million US dollars.

On July 15, 2013, he was arrested by Mexican marines along with two other gang members on a country road in Nuevo Laredo . In addition, two million US dollars, eight weapons and 500 rounds of ammunition were confiscated. His car was stopped by a helicopter landing in front of it.
