Mihály Mayer (water polo player)

Mihály Mayer (born December 27, 1933 in Budapest , † September 4, 2000 there ) was a Hungarian water polo player .

Mihály Mayer was with the Hungarian national water polo team in 1956 and 1964 Olympic champion and won bronze at the Olympic Games in 1960 and 1968 . In 1958 and 1962 Mayer was European champion with the Hungarian team. After the Hungarian uprising was brutally suppressed in 1956 , Mayer was one of the six players who did not return to Hungary immediately after the 1956 Olympic Games. In 1958 he was back on the Hungarian team. Mihály Mayer was with the short break in 1957 from 1947 to 1969 always with Újpesti Dózsa and was with this club in 1955, 1960 and 1967 Hungarian champions.

After his active career, Mihály Mayer became a successful coach. In 1987 he was inducted into the hall of fame of international swimming .
