Mikawa-Ōshima ( Japanese 三河 大 島 , dt "large Mikawa island") is a Japanese island in the Mikawa Bay . It forms the district Miyachō-Ōshima of the municipality of Gamagōri in Aichi prefecture , after the small town ( - chō ) Miya, which was incorporated in 1954 together with the island .
The island is uninhabited, but built up for tourists, because despite its location 3 km off the coast it is a popular bathing resort due to its palm beach, which is open every year between July 1st and August 31st. There is also the Shinto Ōshima shrine ( 大 島 神社 , Ōshima-jinja ) on the island .
South off the coast are the islands Kojima ( 小島 , dt "small island."; 34 ° 47 '2 " N , 137 ° 14' 12.5" O ) and Hotokejima ( 仏島 , dt "Buddha island."; 34 ° 46 48 ' N , 137 ° 13' 56 " E ). Kojima also forms the district of Miyacho-Kojima.
