Mike Anthony Banks (also called "Mad Mike") is an Afro-American techno producer from Detroit . He is the head of the music project and label Underground Resistance . Banks was a member of the Members Of House crew and released a track on the Virgin / 10 compilation "Techno! - The New Dance Sound Of Detroit" in the late 80s . He met Jeff Mills on a Latters radio show . The two discovered common preferences and production methods of electronic music. On November 2, 1989, they jointly founded Underground Resistance (UR for short).

Since the departure of Jeff Mills and Robert Hood in 1992, Mike Banks has continued to operate Underground Resistance as the only founding member (along with several newer members). Banks has since had many newer artists such as B. Suburban Knight (James Pennington), Drexciya and ( DJ Rolando ) supervised.

His name tag "Mad" (Eng. Crazy, insane) comes from Banks radical political and business views, which he consistently represents. It is important to Banks that the buyers of the music publications understand the philosophy behind it (see Underground Resistance ) and techno as an art form (instead of pure music to consume). He often illustrates plates with messages from the Unknown Writer (Cornelius Harris).
