Michael "Mike" Helton (* in Bristol , Virginia ) is the third and current president of NASCAR , the highest and most popular motorsport league in the USA . He took over the office from Bill France junior in November 2000. In February 1999 he was appointed Chief Operating Officer of NASCAR. Previously, Helton was, among other things, manager of the Talladega Superspeedway .
