Mike Laure

Mike Laure (born September 29, 1937 in El Salto , Jalisco , † November 17, 2000 in Mexico City ), real name Miguel Laure Rubio , was a Mexican singer who was also known as El Rey Trópico .

Life

Laure was known for mixing elements of rock 'n' roll with tropical rhythms , which is why he was nicknamed El Rey Trópico ( Spanish for The King of Trópico ). His admiration for Bill Haley and the Comets inspired him to name his backing band Los Cometas .

His most famous songs include (in alphabetical order): Amor de Chapala , Arroz con popote , Carretón de tabaco , Drácula , Española , Grande de caderas , La banda borracha , La cosecha de mujeres , La rajita de canela , La secretaria , María Cristina , Mazatlán , Quiero amanecer , Sin tus besos , Tiburón a la vista and Veracruz .

Mike Laure died of respiratory failure at the age of 63 after being in a coma for more than a month .
