When writing painting or writing painting is called the painting with the spring . It owes its origin to the Beautifully writers (also: calligraphers , Literalmaler, write Master or milliners) that soon after the invention of typography especially in Nuremberg worked.

First they invented micrography (small writing), the products of which were written in the smallest of spaces and set in rings. The underlying texts are often the Our Father or individual psalms .

Later, people tried to imitate the strokes of the pen and brush through the lower-case words and lines and thus formed figures and whole images, called calligraphic images, literal images or typefaces. The writing then usually contained the story of the person depicted, an eulogy of the same or biblical passages.

Calligraphic pictures have come down to us from Hans Wechter , Bernard de Paris , Etienne de Blégny and Jean Midolle , among others .
