Mikveh in Trendelburg

The mikveh in Trendelburg , a town in the Kassel district in Hesse , was probably built in the 17th century.

history

The mikveh of the former Jewish community of Trendelburg was rediscovered by accident in 2001 during renovation work on the house at Am Brunnen 6 . The two vaulted rooms in the basement , which are connected by a short corridor, were used as a ritual bath.

A square basin with three steps was fed by a water pipe with running rain or spring water. Remnants of the water pipe are still there.

The half-timbered house above the mikveh was destroyed by fire around 140 years ago and the entrance was then filled in. It can be assumed that the mikveh was given up in the 19th century and replaced by a new mikveh.

sightseeing

During the opening hours of the tourist office at Marktplatz 1, the vaulted cellar and mikveh can be viewed free of charge and further information can be obtained.
