The Dairy Farm AG is the largest dairy company in the Principality of Liechtenstein , it captures 95% of the milk in the country. The total turnover in 2007 was around 15 million Swiss francs. The owner of the company and the supplier of the raw milk is the Liechtenstein Milk Association  (LMV), the umbrella organization for all Liechtenstein milk cooperatives.

history

The company, based in Schaan , has existed since 1974. Before that, the village milk cooperatives had processed their milk themselves in local dairies. However, the changed consumption habits of consumers, the need for an expanded range of products, could no longer be met by them, so a joint processing facility was necessary.

Originally the main product, besides drinking milk, was the semi-finished product, butter cream, supplied to industrial processors in Switzerland. Organic milk has also been processed since 1993 and organic quality dairy products have been sold.

Due to the insolvency of one of the previous main customers in Switzerland, Swiss Dairy Food , in 2002, the sales channels had to be fundamentally reorganized.

In 2009 the dairy farm was converted into a public limited company. The purpose of this reorganization was to separate production from interest representation, especially in response to changes in milk prices on the market.

At the end of 2014, a new building was started, which will increase the gross floor area sixfold from spring 2016. The aim is to increase the added value of the dairy industry within national borders through more in-house processing into end products and expansion to include exportable ranges.

In the new building, there was initially no neutralization of the wastewater, whereby a lot of acid could get into the groundwater.

profile

Around 25% of the 14 million liters of milk delivered are processed into finished products, 40% into semi-finished products for the food processing industry, and the remaining 35% so far has gone to the milk trade (as of 2008). Due to the greatly increased processing capacity and product range expansion in the course of the new building, this ratio will change from 2016 and also increase the added value. Fresh milk, quark, cream, yoghurt and mixed milk products are produced, as well as cheese from 2016; over 20% of the products are organic. The company's products are marketed regionally to retailers and restaurants under the own brand "Liechtensteiner" and private labels, but are also exported to large distributors, primarily to Switzerland, in exchange for finished products. They have received numerous awards, including from the DLG .
