Mildred Goodman

Mildred Goodman (born November 13, 1922 in Montreal ) is a Canadian violinist.

Goodman studied from 1936 to 1938 with Sascha Jacobsen at the Institute of Musical Art (later Juilliard School of Music ) and then until 1940 at McGill University with Maurice Onderet . Between 1943 and 1945 she took courses with Jacques Gordon .

Since the early 1940s she has appeared as a soloist with the Ladies' Morning Musical Club , the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and the Pro Musica Society . From 1940 to 1961 she was concertmaster of the Montreal Women's Symphony Orchestra . She was also a member of the McGill String Quartet from 1942 to 1944 and of the Montreal String Quartet from 1955 to 1963 . As a member of the Montreal String Quartet, she recorded Brahms ' Quintet for Strings and Piano in F minor as part of the Glenn Gould Edition .

From 1950 to 1983 Goodman was a member of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra . She also played in the Ensemble Musica Antica e Nuova (1951–1955), the Montreal Trio , the McGill Chamber Orchestra and various orchestras of the CBC . Between 1960 and 1963 she attended master classes from Oscar Shumsky and Henryk Szeryng . Since 1963 she has taught at McGill University . Goodman was married to the composer Clermont Pépin († 2006).
