Military athletic achievement badge

The military athletic achievement badge was an award of the Free German Youth (FDJ), which, however, was only awarded by the Ministry for State Security in the German Democratic Republic (GDR). It was only allowed to be worn within the offices of the State Secretariat for State Security. Well-known award certificates suggest a foundation around the years 1956/1957. The achievement badge was awarded for knowledge in weapon training, terrain knowledge and terrain training; also for knowledge of first aid and for studying books in the partisan war of the Soviet Union in World War II .

Appearance

The bronze, silver or gold-plated badge is high oval 42.8 mm high, 33.8 mm wide and shows a pair of people within a wreath of ears of corn (right) and a wreath of oak leaves (left), of which the right one is a male person in uniform with a PPSch- 41 in her hand and behind him a young woman, also in uniform, with a telephone receiver to her ear. Two waving flags are shown behind this pair of people, both of which protrude over the top of the badge. The front is the blue enameled FDJ and behind it the GDR flag, which is largely covered.
