The Millennium Express is a detachable cable car that has been connecting the Gailtal with Nassfeld since winter 1999/2000 and leads in three sections from Tröpolach to the middle of the Nassfeld ski area in 17 minutes. With a total length of 6,001 m, it is the longest cable car in Austria and the second longest cable car in the Alps . Before the construction of the railway, the ski area could only be reached by car over the pass road. A similar feeder cable car has also been planned for several years, which will lead up the mountain from Pontebba on the Italian side .

technology

Like its sister railways (Trogkofelbahn and Zweikofelbahn), the lift cabins hold up to 15 people and are automatically switched from one rope to the next in the two intermediate stations. This enables a continuous journey to the summit station without having to change trains. The sections can also be operated separately. This means that, for example, when the valley run is closed, it can be adapted to uneven occupancy. In principle, there are three ropeways built one behind the other, on which the gondolas can be passed on. In every intermediate station, the doors open so that you can get on and off.

The drive is located in the mountain station of all three sections. The garage is in the Tröpolach valley station.

route

Millennium Express I.

The first section leads from the valley to the Gmanberg. A descent into the valley is possible from there. The slope below is also used for night skiing.

Millennium Express II

The second section crosses the Rudniggraben and leads to the ski center on the Tressdorfer Alm. Since this section cannot be skied directly, the section is also used intensively for the journey home in the evening. In the station building there is a depot for the gondolas of the third section of the cable car as well as the ski school, a sporting goods shop with ski depot and a restaurant. The Tressdorfer Alm can be reached by car via Nassfeld Straße .

Millennium Express III

The third section is the part that is mainly used for skiing during the day. There are hardly any descents on this section in winter.
