Miloš Bič

Miloš Bič (born November 19, 1910 in Vienna ; died April 28, 2004 in Prague ) was a Czech theologian and philologist . He resisted National Socialism and was imprisoned for it.

Miloš Bič studied Protestant theology and philology of the Semitic languages ​​in Prague, Marburg and Montpellier. In 1936 he received his doctorate on Haruspicium in the Old Testament . Then he became pastor of the Bohemian Brethren in Domažlice. During the protectorate period , he was captured in 1940 for resisting the German occupation. He performed forced labor in camps near Ebrach, Dresden and Waldheim. In 1943 he was imprisoned for three months in the Gestapo prison in the Small Fortress Theresienstadt , and then in the Buchenwald and Dachau concentration camps.

After the liberation he worked at the Evangelical Theological Faculty of Charles University in Prague, where he became a full professor in 1948. After the formation of the Commenius Faculty (1950), he worked there as a professor of Old Testament studies. In 1977 he was retired for political reasons.

Together with Josef Lukl Hromádka he was a co-founder of the Prague Peace Conference .
