Mini Munich
Mini-Munich is a simulation game in the form of a children's city . The big city game took place for the first time under the name Mini-Munich in August 1979 for the International Year of the Child and has since taken place every two years for three weeks from the first week of the summer vacation in Munich. Play towns and children's towns around the world use similar concepts, for example in Austria, Denmark, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Egypt, Italy and Japan.
In play and in a built small town with all the necessary facilities that are needed for a complex city game, the children liven up their town, pursue different professions, negotiate political issues, study, meet, go shopping, eat out or go to the cinema. The game is financed by the state capital, among others. It is considered to be one of the most famous cultural education projects in Germany. In 2014 Mini-Munich took place for the first time on the grounds of the Zenith-Halle (Freimann). In summer 2016, around 32,000 children took part in the project over the 15 days of play.
regulate
Mini Munich is a city for children . Children between the ages of 7 and 15 play there. At the beginning of the game, all players fill out a participation card in which many activities in the play city can be entered. There is an employment office where you can apply for a job after the first hour of play (before that, the application runs directly to the company). There is an extra counter for studying at the university , at which study places are allocated at certain times. Working and studying in the play city are rewarded with MiMüs, the currency in Mini-Munich. A job is only valid for one day, the next day you have to get a new card . An exception is the green work card, with which you can secure a responsible job for the next day. After working or studying, you have to present the job slip to a bank within half an hour in order to have the earned income paid out in the fictitious currency MiMü . If this does not happen within half an hour, the work card “expires”. In the worst case, if you don't follow the rules of the game , you can be expelled from the play town (e.g. in the event of theft).
Experience has shown that the children can quickly find their way around the play city. But there are always parents who do not trust their children to do this and who therefore want to intervene in the game to support their children. To prevent this, there are “parent-free zones” in the play city, e.g. B. in front of the employment office. Since 2012, parents have only been allowed to enter the Spielstadt with a “parents visa”, which is valid for a maximum of one hour. For parents there is a separate area called "Parents Cafe", which they are not allowed to leave without a parent visa.
Full citizenship
Anyone who has studied for four hours and worked for four hours and has successfully completed a "Zoffkurs" can apply for full citizenship and thus take the full citizenship test. As a full citizen you can be elected, get a driver's license and receive other benefits. Since 2018, all citizens have been allowed to vote in order to reduce the power monopoly of full citizens on Mini Munich politics. Full citizenship once acquired will also be recognized in the next few years. In total, over 10,000 children have become full citizens of Mini-Munich since 1979.
MiMü
The currency, the so-called MiMüs, is play money. They are only valid for one season and are redesigned each time. The design of the special season ticket is determined by a competition for children. Since 2006, every note has said honesty lasts the longest .
You earn five MiMü per hour, but one Mimü has to be paid as a tax, so in the end it is four MiMü per hour.
Work and study cards
In Minimünchen there are various cards that have to be handed in to the bank in addition to the paychecks in order to receive your wages. These are:
Work cards
- Red work card: It is used by the employment office to pass on a possibly terminated job to a child as quickly as possible.
- Orange work card, express job: they are issued by the companies themselves when required.
- Green card: Employees who have proven to be particularly successful at their workplace receive a green work card from their supervisor. With this, the workplace is secured and you are authorized to enter the play city 15 minutes before the other children, i.e. at 9:45 a.m.
Study cards
- Blue study card: The university courses are entered on this card. The professor signs it so that you can collect your wages from the bank.
- purple professor card: Professors who teach a course at the Comenius University receive this card. How professors should be paid is one of Mini Munich's eternal debates (only teaching time? Preparation time? How much preparation time?) And it often changes from season to season. When you hand in the card at the bank, you will be paid according to the current rules.
place
Mini-Munich took place in different buildings in the Olympic Park from 1979 (2008 and 2010: Event Arena) and in 1984 and 1986 in the Moll-Hallen. In 2014 and 2016 the city game took place in the Zenith-Halle, the Spiegelzelt and the Kesselhaus in the Freimann district. In 2018 Mini-Munich returned to the grounds of the Event Arena, which was demolished in 2015. For the first time, no hall was available for the project, which is why a tent city was built for the duration of the game. In 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic , the game took place at 40 different locations across Munich.
