The mini cosmos is a planetarium in Lichtenstein in Saxony. It is one of the world's most modern planetariums.

history

The mini cosmos was opened on January 26, 2007. At that time, the three programs "The Origin of Life", "The Magic Reef" and "Pink Floyd Music Show" were offered. Later came the programs "Adventure Space Travel", "The Journey Through the Universe", "The Small 1x1 of Stars", "Stars of the 4 Seasons", "Astronomyths", "The Magic of the Telescope - two small piecs of glass" and on March 31, 2010 "Seven Wonders - the 7 wonders" added.

Technical specifications

The inner dome of the planetarium has a diameter of 12 meters. The dome hangs freely on chains and is made of lightweight aluminum, which means that the dome weighs only 1250 kilograms. The films are projected in a 360 ° cinema onto an area of 230 m². Two different techniques are combined to represent this:

  • With the ZKP4 from Zeiss , a computer-controlled image of the starry sky can be projected onto the dome for every observation point and for every time.
  • With the Powerdom system , the films are projected onto the dome as 360 ° films with the help of five projectors .

The system was originally controlled by six computers, one per projector plus a master, which ran synchronously. Today 2019 one computer is enough for this task.

The planetarium offers 74 comfortable and rotating seats.
