The Ministério da Segurança Pública ( MSP , Min Seg Pública ), German Ministry of Public Security , was a Brazilian ministry with federal police tasks for the fight against crime and the internal security of the country.

It was founded on February 26, 2018 by presidential decree by Michel Temer and had its seat in the capital Brasília in the Palace of Justice . As the first and only minister of the MSP, Raul Jungmann , previously Minister of Defense in the Temer cabinet , was sworn in on February 27, 2018 .

The official title was Ministro da Segurança Pública , translated into German as Minister for Public Security . The ministry combined some areas of responsibility from the departments of the previous Ministry of Justice.

The President Jair Bolsonaro abolished the Ministry with effect from January 1, 2019 and merged it with the Ministry of Justice to form the new Ministério da Justiça e Segurança Pública under the Minister of Justice and Public Security Sérgio Moro .
