Minister for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship
Minister for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship , English Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship, French Ministre de l'Immigration, des Réfugiés et de la Citoyenneté is a ministerial service in the Canadian government. In the 29th Canadian Cabinet , Ahmed Hussen has been the minister responsible since January 10, 2017 . His predecessor was John McCallum , who has held the office since 2015.
The respective minister heads the Department of Citizenship and Immigration , or Citizenship and Immigration Canada for short .
In the course of time, the responsible ministers had different names or the department was assigned to other ministries. Minister for Citizenship and Immigration (English Minister of Citizenship and Immigration ) was one of the older office titles, the office was last occupied by Chris Alexander . This name was valid from 1950–1966 and 1994–2015. In the period 1966–1977 the Minister of Manpower and Immigration (English Minister of Manpower and Immigration ) and 1977–1996 the Minister of Employment and Immigration (English Minister of Employment and Immigration ) was responsible for this division.
