The Minutage (French for “precise time planning”) is a course plan of the mimic-dance events drawn up by the choreographer , which contains detailed information on the character and expression of the music required in each case. It serves as the basis for the composition of ballet music and thus represents a kind of agreement between choreographer and composer . It contains a dance-like course of action divided into scenes and instructions about the course of time, tempo , meter and instrumentation .

Ballet music has the task of conveying content- related and atmospheric moments of an action and to form a unit with the gestures and the dancing action. It forms the rhythmic foil for the dance .
