Miodrag Stanojlovic

Miodrag Stanojlovic (born September 21, 1908 in Druzetic near Valjevo , Yugoslavia , † March 1984 ) was a Serbian Orthodox priest and a victim of National Socialism .

Life

Miodrag Stanojlovic grew up as one of four children of a farming family in Druzetic near Valjevo. After primary school in Gola Glava , he attended four classes at a high school in Valjevo. He then studied theology at Stremski University . He graduated in 1932. For six months he then worked as a medic in the Royal Army of Yugoslavia . After military service, he was ordained a priest and worked in the parish of his hometown. In 1937 he went to Stitar near Šabac . Politically he was close to the Demokratska Stranka .

After the occupation of Yugoslavia by German and Italian troops, he was arrested for the first time in 1941. He was released after six months in detention and was able to continue serving as a priest. However, he remained under surveillance and was denounced between 1943 and 1944 of being active in the anti-fascist resistance. He was arrested on March 20, 1944 and, after a short stay in an interim camp, came to Belgrade . His further path led via the Mauthausen concentration camp (recorded on September 16, 1944) to the Dachau concentration camp , where he arrived on December 1, 1944. He stayed there until liberation by US troops on April 29, 1945.

He was then able to resume his priesthood and last exercised it with the rank of archpriest . He was also the governor of Macva parish .

He died in March 1984 at the age of 75.
