The Miomboweber ( Ploceus angolensis , Syn. Sharpia angolensis ) belongs within the family of weaver birds (Ploceidae) to the genus of the Ammerweber ( Ploceus ).

The bird is found in Angola , the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Zambia .

The distribution area includes Miombo or Cryptosepalum forest.

features

The species is 13 cm tall, a small, slender bird with a dark upper and whitish to yellowish underside, looks significantly different from a typical weaver bird, is more reminiscent of a flycatcher . The male forehead, crown and neck are blackish, the rest of the head is dark brown including the ear covers, the back is brown and cream-colored with a broad yellow stripe. The name ( English bar-winged weaver ) are two light wing bands. The beak is slender, the tail short. In the female, the yellow on the underside is less pronounced. Fledglings are dull olive gray on the vertex with a pale beak.

The species is monotypical .

voice

The male's singing consists of a number of fast melodic tones, rising and louder.

Way of life

The food consists mainly of insects that are hunted in the treetops, but also by climbing up the trunk, branches and twigs. Hunting is done as a couple, as a family, and also in mixed hunting communities.

The breeding season is between August and November in Zambia. The species is monogamous and does not breed in colonies . The nest is built by both parent birds about 10 meters above the ground. The clutch consists of 2–3 turquoise-blue, dark-spotted eggs.

Hazardous situation

The stock is not considered to be at risk ( least concern ).
