The Miraj-4 (incorrectly also Miraz-4 or simply Miraz ) is a Bangladeshi inland ferry that sank on the Meghna on May 15, 2014 , killing large numbers of people.

The approximately 36 meters long ferry with a capacity of 122 people was used on the Meghna River. On May 15, 2014, the ship was on board with over 200 people (other source: 351 passengers and 14 men crew) on a journey from Sadarghat near Dhaka to Sureshwar . In the afternoon the ferry ran into a bad weather area and sank near the city of Gazaria at around 3:30 p.m. local time .
In the course of the rescue operation, the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) succeeded on the evening of the accident in bringing the floating crane Biwta Prottoy to Daulatdia, with which the Miraj-4 is lifted through a broken wire and brought to the bank of the river after a failed attempt could. By the end of the rescue operation on the afternoon of May 17, 55 victims of the accident had been rescued. The surviving dependents received compensation of 20,000 Taka (around 186 euros) per victim from the Munsiganj district administration . By May 19, the number of recovered victims increased to 56.
Proceedings were initiated against the owner of the ferry, Khandaker Anwar Hossain, the captain Rafiqul Islam, several members of the crew and a few other parties involved because of overloading the ship and inconsiderate driving style.
