Mirjam Ohringer

Mirjam Ohringer (born October 26, 1924 in Amsterdam - † May 29, 2016 ) was a Dutch survivor of the Holocaust .

Life

Her parents were Hasidic Jews from Galicia. During the German occupation she was active in the underground and helped spread the communist party newspaper De Waarheid . In 1942 she had to go into hiding, which enabled her to survive the war. After the end of the war, she married a Dutchman and was given Dutch citizenship . She joined the Communist Partij van Nederland and was active there. She was also a member of the Sachsenhausen Committee, the United Resistance, and the May 4th and 5th Committee, and also gave tours of the Resistance Museum. In 2009 she received the Dachau Prize for moral courage . She was among the speakers at the commemorative events for the November 1938 pogroms in 2010.
