Mishima Tokushichi

Mishima Tokushichi ( Japanese 三島 徳 七 ; born February 24, 1893 in Hiroishi (広 石村), Tsuna County (津 名 郡) ( Hyōgo Prefecture ); died November 19, 1975 ) was a Japanese metallurgist.

Live and act

Mishima Tokushichi, who came from a rural family, began his studies at the Technical Faculty of Tōkyō University in 1916 , which he graduated in 1920. That year he was adopted by his former teacher Mishima Michiyoshi (三島 通 良; 1866–1925). In 1921, Tokushichi became an assistant professor at his alma mater.

In 1928 Mishima found the MK alloys, highly magnetizable materials that are used to develop the Alnico magnets that are used in 90% of hi-fi speakers today. In 1932 he received the Hattori-Hōkai Prize. From 1940 to 1955 he was on the board of directors of the Japan Institute of Invention and Innovation (発 明 協会, Hatsumei kyōkai).

When he left the university when he reached the age limit in 1953, he was appointed "Meiyo Kyōju".

In 1945 Mishima received the "Onshi Prize" (恩賜 ​​賞) of the Academy of Sciences , in 1950 the Order of Culture followed . In 1951 he was subsequently honored as a person with special cultural merits .

In addition, Mishima has received other prizes at home and abroad.

  3. Meiyo Kyōju (名誉 教授) is occasionally rendered in German as "Professor emeritus". But in contrast to this title, which is automatically carried on retirement, this is a special award only occasionally granted in Japan.
  4. Since the imperial cultural order may not be linked to a payment, the distinction "person with special cultural merits" was introduced in 1951, which is linked to an honorary salary from budget funds.
