Missionaries of Mercy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Missionaries of Mercy are a community within the Catholic Church. You can forgive sins for which the Holy See is otherwise solely responsible. The canon law code of 1983 names among them the desecration of the host, violence against the Pope, the absolution of accomplices against the sixth commandment, episcopal ordination without papal mandate and the direct violation of the confessional secret. The absolution from the sin of unauthorized episcopal ordination is excluded.

Missionaries' tasks and characteristics

The missionaries are invited to accompany people's missions or other events. It is always about the celebration of the sacrament of reconciliation.

The missionaries should:

  • be a living sign that the Father welcomes everyone who seeks his forgiveness,
  • To offer everyone an encounter full of humanity, a source of liberation, a place of responsibility, which makes it possible to overcome all obstacles and to take up the life that was once given again in Baptism;
  • Let yourself be guided in your mission by the word of the apostle: “God has shut everyone up in disobedience in order to have mercy on all” (Rom 11:32);
  • be persuasive preachers of mercy;
  • Be the herald of joy through forgiveness;
  • Accepting them as confessors, being full of love and sympathy and especially open to people's difficult situations.

At an audience in the Vatican in June 2019, Pope Francis granted the Catholic ship chaplains far-reaching powers. They are given the same powers as the Missionaries of Mercy.
