Temporary missionaries

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Temporary missionaries ( MaZ for short ) are young people who complete a one to five-year assignment abroad through a German missionary order under the motto "Live, pray, work".

This service is often taken on by boys in Germany as an Other Service abroad .

history

The idea of temporary missionaries has existed since the Catholic Day in Berlin in 1980 . At that time, some young people approached the missionary orders to live and work with the religious community in another country for a while. As a result, some mission orders in Germany, together with the German Catholic Mission Council, developed two models for living, praying and collaborating in another country. A distinction is made between model 1 for one-year, model 2 for a 14-month service as "other service abroad" and model 3 for long-term three to five-year assignments.

Since then, over 2000 young people have participated. Meanwhile, the number of temporary missionaries in Germany is so large that there is an organized group that takes care of the returnee work, conducts educational work and above all provides information about the project and life in other cultures.
