The central avenue is one of the most representative and breitesten streets in Hildesheim . It extends over a length of 493 m in the Weststadt district and runs from northeast to southwest.

In its southwestern part it climbs uphill and ends at Berghölzchen , a wooded hill from which you have a beautiful view of Hildesheim. The middle avenue is characterized by a wide green strip in its center with a double-row linden avenue and countless rose bushes. On both sides, Mittelallee is lined with villas from the first quarter of the 20th century, some of which have features of Art Nouveau , Historicism or Expressionism - it is still one of the best and most expensive addresses in Hildesheim today. A similar architectural style and a similar price level can be found in their cross streets - Königstraße, Küchenthalstraße, Karthäuserstraße and Bischof-Gerhard-Straße.

The Mittelallee was planned and laid out in the 1920s as the central main street of a residential area for the upper class of the population. It received its name in 1925 and was renamed on June 4, 1936 in "Horst-Wessel-Allee". The Second World War, withstood the Mittelallee without significant damage. It was given its original name back on April 28, 1945, and originally the Mittelallee branched off in two sections from Alfelder Straße, which were given their own names on October 21, 1954: The northern branch between Alfelder Straße and Bennoburg was after a sister city of Hildesheim "Laubaner street" and the southern named after another sister city "Neisser road".
