The geographical center of the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden is outside the canton, namely in the area of the municipality of Schlatt-Haslen in the canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden .

The geometric center of Appenzell Ausserrhoden has not been marked. Since it is located in a different canton, a geometer monument was unveiled in Teufen AR on May 12, 2012 on the occasion of the celebrations for the 100th anniversary of official surveying in Switzerland , which was designed by the Ausserrhoder concept artist H.R. Fricker has been created. The position was determined as the arithmetic mean of the focal points of all 20 municipalities in the canton and thus symbolizes the center of Ausserrhoden.
