The Mitter Meier-mouse lemurs ( Microcebus mittermeieri ) is an on Madagascar living primate species from the kind of mouse lemurs within the group of lemurs . The species was first described in 2006 ; the name honors the zoologist Russell Mittermeier .

Mittermeier lemurs with a head body length of around 9 centimeters, a tail length of around 11 centimeters and a weight of 34 to 51 (average 44) grams are among the smallest representatives of their genus and the smallest primates at all. Their head is rounded, their muzzle is short, their ears protrude from their fur and their eyes are enlarged. Their fur is colored reddish brown on the back, the belly is light brown or whitish. A dark brown line of eel runs along the back . The throat and neck have some yellowish spots.

So far, Mittermeier lemurs are only known from the Anjanaharibe Sud reserve, which is located in northeastern Madagascar near the Masoala peninsula. It is conceivable that their area of distribution will also spread to neighboring regions, details are not yet known. Their habitat are tropical rainforests .

Little is known about the way of life of this newly discovered species. They are nocturnal and mostly hang out in the trees. Like all lemur lemurs, they are allowed to sleep in tree hollows or leaf nests during the day and eat omnivorous - mainly fruits and insects.

Their area of distribution is protected, also due to the uncertainties about the exact area of distribution, no information can be given about the degree of risk. The IUCN lists the species under “too little data available” ( data deficient ).
