Mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (engl. Mean corpuscular / cellular hemoglobin concentration , MCHC ) denotes the mean hemoglobin concentration of the hematocrit (the red cell mass ). In healthy people, this value is between 33 and 36 grams per deciliter . It can be calculated as follows:

The MCHC often remains normal with changes in the blood count, while the MCV and MCH change largely in the same direction.

An increase in MCHC can indicate high-titre cold agglutinins . An increase in normal MCH may indicate hereditary spherocytosis . A decrease can be associated with iron and pyridoxine deficiency, thalassemia , sideroachrestic anemia and others.
