Wednesday regatta
The Wednesday regatta - called Wednesday Night Race or casually beer can race in the USA - is a custom of sailors to meet in the middle of the week for a sporty and relaxed competition.
Especially in the USA, but also in England , Australia and Hong Kong as well as in Germany since the 1970s, people sail against each other on this day. Normally the race, in which all boat types with a yardstick number can participate, is evaluated according to this procedure.
Normally, the sailor does not have to adhere to the registration deadlines for these events, but reports shortly before the start in the club house of the host club or even on the water at the start boat. In some areas there is no entry fee for participation.
Since the sailors usually meet after the competition for a “Seglerhock”, a cozy chat, this type of event is an opportunity to get to know each other.
