Heiko Kosel ( Sorb. Hajko Kozel ; born August 13, 1966 in Bautzen ) is a German - Sorbian politician ( Die Linke ), a member of the state parliament of Saxony between 2015 and 2019 and a member of the Sorbian parliament Serbski Sejm .

Life and work

After graduating from high school, Heiko Kosel studied history and law at the Sorbian Extended High School (today's Sorbian High School ) . During his studies from 1990 to 1995 he was chairman of the association “Pawoł Nedo” (Sorbian Student Association). He was admitted to the German bar in 1999, and in 2000 he also passed the admission test for the Czech law firm. Since 2001 he has been a member of the German-Polish Lawyers Association.

In the Sorbian umbrella organization Domowina , he was chairman of the Federal Arbitration Commission for several years, and he was also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation for the Sorbian People .

politics

Kosel joined the SED in 1985 and changed to the PDS after reunification . Within his party, he has been co-spokesman for the federal working group “Ethnic Minorities” on the party executive of the left-wing parliamentary group.PDS since 2003. and since 2005 member of the state executive committee and there commissioner for minority policy as well as cross-border and international cooperation. He has also been a member of the Bautzen district board since 2008. He was also chairman of the joint commission of left parliamentary groups in the Federal Republic of Germany, the Czech Republic and the Republic of Poland. In November 2013 he was appointed voluntary advisor for cross-border cooperation by the governor of the Ústí nad Labem region .

He was a member of the Saxon parliament and always on since the third term (1999 Oct.) state list drawn into the parliament. There he was spokesman for European and minority policy for his parliamentary group and deputy chairman of the committee for rules of procedure and immunity matters as well as a member of the constitutional, legal and European committee . In the 2014 state elections , he narrowly missed re-entry into the state parliament at number 28 on the list, but replaced Annekatrin Klepsch in November 2015 , who took over the office of Dresden's cultural mayor. Before that, Heike Werner had also renounced the move to the Saxon state parliament because she had already been appointed Minister for Labor, Social Affairs, Health, Women and Family of the Free State of Thuringia in the cabinet of Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow .

Heiko Kosel was elected to the first Sorbian parliament Serbski Sejm in autumn 2018, which was constituted on November 17, 2018 in the Sorbian cultural center Slepo (loop).
