Miwa Yanagi

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Miwa Yanagi ( Japanese や な ぎ み わ , Yanagi Miwa ; * 1967 in Kobe ) is a Japanese artist who creates digitally processed photographs.

In terms of content, Yanagi deals with sociological aspects of the modern way of life in contemporary Japan, in particular with the uniformity, anonymity and interchangeability of individuals in public and with the standardized role behavior of Japanese women. Recordings of real people, which are put together in alienated and synthetically produced, digitally processed, sometimes fantastic landscapes and interiors, are processed into photo series or sometimes monumental image compositions.

Photo series

  • My Grandmothers (from 1999)
  • Elevator Girls (from 1993)
