Mjps

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

mjps (actually Martin Josef Pascal Schwitter ; * 1962 in Basel ) has been a Schnitzelbanggler at the Basel Carnival since 1984 . In addition, he is now responsible for more than 20 carnival groups as the “Zeedel poet”.

Mjps achieved the greatest degree of awareness with its various "Fäährymaa-Gschichte" books, short stories written in Basel German with typical Basel wisdom. These dialect stories, in which the ferrymen of the Basel ferries appear, were also his first publications. More short story books followed. Various poems by mjps were put into music. This is how musical numbers were created in pre-Carnival events or commissioned compositions for events in Basel.

As a co-founder of the “Schwarze Duume” and initiator of a fund to support young authors, mjps is committed to promoting Basel (dialect) literature. He also contributes to the preservation of this local carnival tradition with Schnitzelbangg courses, campaigned incognito for the creation of the "Bebbi-Träff" and helps as "Götti" (godfather) newcomers to the carnival.

As a theologian, he also generally helps in church services. He likes to use the instruments he plays (harmonica, guitar and alphorn).
