The association Mobil mit Behavior eV (MMB) advises people with disabilities on the handicapped-friendly conversion of vehicles and supports them with the procurement in the sense of helping them to help themselves. The association operates nationwide and is recognized as non-profit and benevolent.

The Union

The association is financed through donations and membership fees. The volunteer counselors either have a disability themselves or look after a disabled family member. All active people work on a voluntary basis.

A network of specially trained advisors supports people in finding a vehicle equipped for disabled people and having it adapted to their needs by specialized workshops. At the same time, the association helps its members to finance the vehicles and follows up the case law on the subject. The cost of a vehicle adapted for the disabled can go into the six-digit range and cost carriers are hardly to be found for employees who are not subject to social insurance.

Together with the Forum for Self- Determined Assistance eV (ForseA) and the Inclusion Through Mobility Foundation (IDM), the MMB has founded an action alliance to support the legislature in implementing the rights of disabled people.

The MMB has set up so-called mobile meetings in several cities, where club members and interested parties meet regularly. There are currently mobile meetings in: Berlin, Karlsruhe and Marburg-Biedenkopf.

In January 2015, the association's founder and chairman, Heinrich Buschmann , was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit.

Origin and history

In 1999, a near-accident gave the initiator of the association, Heinrich Buschmann, the idea of creating an internet platform on which disabled people can exchange ideas about technical solutions. This platform was built on the basis of a mailing list and called Rollinet (t) .

In the following two years, a group formed at Rollinet (t) that wanted to continue the idea of support. The limited possibilities of a mailing list were not sufficient for this. The association for mobile with disabilities (MMB) was founded and entered in the register of associations in 2001.

The Rollinet (t) continues to exist independently of this as an interest group. In the meantime, the MMB only provides the Rollinet (t) with the technology and pursues further goals.

Cooperations and projects

  • The MMB is an extraordinary member of the Federal Self-Help Working Group .
  • The Motor Vehicle Aid Ordinance is often interpreted by the cost bearers in such a way that only those who are gainfully employed have the right to vehicle subsidies in the sense of participation in working life . In the opinion of the MMB, the regulation also applies to social participation. In order to bring this in line with the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities , club activists say they do lobby work at federal and state level. Therefore, the association collects relevant judgments and evaluates them. These tasks also include sensitizing people to the topic.
  • In a project with the charity portal Summler, board member Helmut Rebmann visualized the work of the association.
  • Mobile with disabilities is the sponsor of the non-profit foundation Inclusion durch Mobility .
  • Some charitable foundations no longer support individual projects. You refer directly to the MMB and support the association on a flat-rate basis. The needs assessment and the allocation of such funding is then carried out by the association's own allocation committee .
  • Mobil with disabilities also advises organizations such as the German Student Union or the Barrierefrei NRW agency on the subject of vehicle adaptations for the disabled.
