The mobilcom-debitel Shop GmbH (mdS) is a wholly owned subsidiary of mobilcom-debitel GmbH and occurs under the same brand in the public mobilcom-debitel on. With around 327 own branches and around 225 partner branches, it forms the framework for the retail division of the freenet group.
It was created on November 3, 2009 through the change of name and integration of the freenet shops operated by mobilcom into _dug telecom ag , based in Oberkrämer near Berlin.
The 1,000 stores at the time, which were last run under the freenet and _dug brands, received a uniform rebranding to the new mobilcom-debitel brand in the year of the change of name. The debitel brand had already completely disappeared in the retail sector and was replaced by _dug branches. Since the freenet shops were also operated under the brand name mobilcom shortly before, it was a matter of another brand change within just a few years.
