The Mobilcom-Debitel GmbH , shortly md , former Mobilcom Communications Technology , based in Büdelsdorf is the mobile subsidiary of the publicly traded provider Freenet . Mobilcom-Debitel is one of two network-independent mobile phone providers in Germany.

Background: Mobilcom AG

Mobilcom-Debitel began its business activity as a wireless service provider based in Schleswig and was founded in 1991 by Gerhard Schmid . In the period between 1997 and 2000, the Mobilcom business area grew through a series of acquisitions.

History of the Mobilcom Debitel

As early as 2009, around 1,000 stores of the chains mobilcom , debitel , _dug and Talkline were merged under the uniform brand Mobilcom-Debitel in Mobilcom-Debitel Shop GmbH. In 2011, Freenet took over competitor Debitel , which had previously been merged with Talkline . The previous Freenet mobile communications subsidiary Mobilcom Communikationstechnik was renamed Mobilcom-Debitel GmbH and the acquired Debitel AG was renamed Mobilcom-Debitel AG. On May 23, 2011, the stock corporation was completely merged with the GmbH.

On December 18, 2012 Gravis Computervertriebsgesellschaft announced the acquisition of all shares by Mobilcom-Debitel. After approval by the antitrust authorities, the takeover was completed in 2013. Since then, Mobilcom-Debitel products have also been sold through the Gravis chain of stores. Also in 2013, Mobilcom-Debitel took over 51 percent of the shares in Motion TM Vertriebsgesellschaft , an online retailer in the field of mobile communications and telecommunications, and thus strengthened online sales. Other subsidiaries of mobilcom-debitel are Klarmobil and Callmobile , which, as so-called wireless no-frills providers, offer simple wireless products. The mobilcom-debitel products are sold, among others, by the wholly-owned subsidiary Mobilcom-Debitel Shop , which operates a number of stores under the Mobilcom-Debitel brand.

In March 2016, Mobilcom-Debitel acquired Media Broadcast . In addition to radio transmission in the FM and DAB + standard, Media Broadcast has been operating DVB-T2 HD under the Freenet TV brand since then .
