The Klarmobil GmbH (proper spelling klarmobil ) is a mobile discounter , based in Hamburg . Under the brands klarmobil.de , freenetmobile.de , callmobile.de and debitel light , Klarmobil offers mobile phone tariffs in the networks of Deutsche Telekom and Vodafone . Klarmobil is a wholly owned subsidiary of mobilcom-debitel and is therefore a company of the Freenet Group .

history

On September 20, 2005, klarmobil GmbH and the associated brand klarmobil.de were started by a small team led by Hartmut Herrmann, who had already been with mobilcom for several years . He was appointed managing director at the time. In 2005, the offer consisted of a postpaid tariff with a price of 18 cents per minute in all German networks. Just a few months after the launch, klarmobil.de expanded its tariff to include a community component. Customers could call each other for 4 cents a minute. In the course of time, the price outside of one's own community fell to 12 cents per minute by 2008 based on the market level. Until 2008, the offer from klarmobil.de consisted exclusively of postpaid tariffs and was only available online.

In February 2009 the brand realigned itself. With a new product concept consisting of discount, flat-rate and data tariffs, klarmobil.de has developed into the first full-service provider in the German wireless services discount market and has offered tariffs in the networks of Deutsche Telekom, Vodafone and Telefónica. The price fell further to today's market level of 9 cents. In addition, klarmobil.de expanded its sales to the stationary trade and since then has also been offering its discount products there as prepaid tariffs. As part of the consolidation of the mobile service provider market, klarmobil took over the continuation of the debitel and Talkline no-frills brands callmobile.de and debitel light, which had merged into the freenet Group.

klarmobil has been marketing an all-network flat rate in the Telefónica (formerly o2) network since 2012, making it one of the first discount providers to offer its customers the opportunity to make calls, send SMS and use mobile data for a monthly basic price. In 2016, klarmobil launched "mic", an online magazine for mobile communications and digital lifestyle. In addition, the company launched a discount mobile tariff in the Telefónica network in the LTE standard for the first time. Since 2019, klarmobil.de has offered tariffs in the Deutsche Telekom and Vodafone networks exclusively with LTE. Klarmobil's offer is also available in over 550 mobilcom-debitel shops.

Cooperations

In June 2010, Klarmobil founded the product brand freenetMobile.de, called freenet Mobile since May 2019, in cooperation with the freenet.de portal. Various all-network flat-rate and smartphone flat-rate tariffs are currently being marketed under this label.

criticism

Klarmobil has come under fire because of extra costs that were hidden in the general terms and conditions, such as dunning fees of almost ten euros and service fees for natural services such as the payment of remaining credit when a prepaid contract is terminated. These claims have been declared invalid by the court.

In April 2014, cases became known that Klarmobil had subsequently introduced a basic fee for old contracts without a minimum turnover and basic fee. This is € 1 per month for sales of less than € 3 per month. This happened by changing the terms and conditions in 2010, although "essential contract components [...] according to the BGH (judgment of October 11, 2007, Az. BGH III ZR 63/07) cannot be changed by changing the terms and conditions at the expense of the customer".

In addition, if the customer is not responsible for a defect in the SIM card, Klarmobil does not replace it free of charge, but for a fee of up to EUR 24.95 (special price list as of 03/2017 from freenetMobile). The same costs arise if a new SIM card with a different format (mini-micro-nano) is required due to a change in the device.

The communication of the network membership of tariffs is also repeatedly criticized. In the D network, customers can hardly see whether the Telekom or Vodafone network is being used before booking a tariff. Klarmobil often only communicates "D-Netz quality" here.
