ModelKartei.de is a website operated by Hendrik Siemens since May 2000 for amateurs and professionals in person photography . The platform aims to bring together photographers , models , make-up artists and rental studios . From version 5 of model-kartei.de, producers, advertising agencies, photo editors, model agencies, illustrators, media companies, body painters and hairstylists as well as stylists can present themselves with their own sedcard. With a Vip status, a client sedcard can give newcomers the opportunity to generate jobs and display orders. All members can present themselves on a sedcard and search for participants for photo shoots . ModelKartei.de says it has around 200,000 registered users and 69,000 active sedcards.
history
The Model Index began in May 2000 with the first website created with the website creation software NetObjects Fusion. Changes to sedcards were only possible via email contact to the operator of the site, new images also had to be sent via email. There was no dynamic content.
Currently the third generation is written in PHP / MySQL and runs on Ubuntu servers. Its user administration enables users to create sedcards independently and to be monitored by several groups of moderators. The most popular functions include the galleries with three million images, the organization of shoots and the forum.
Currently, in 2019 there is the 5th version of the model index.
Numbers & dates
According to Alexa Internet , model-kartei.de had a worldwide traffic rank of 11,000 in 2014, a German traffic rank of 544. At the end of 2016, the site fell to rank 1154 and in January 2018 it fell further to rank 1288.
For July 2011, the AWStats software delivered 2.8 million visitors and 120 million page views.
350,000 people are registered, 100,000 of them with at least one active sedcard . Including 58,000 models (49,000 female and 8,800 male), 32,000 photographers, 2,100 make-up artists and 700 photo studios.
4.5 million images with a storage volume of almost 1000 gigabytes are available online.
Functions
One of the most important functions of the model card index is the creation of sedcards with the option of providing information about yourself that is relevant to the model industry. Model sedcards contain u. a. Information on body measurements, appearance, weight, age, place of residence and desired recording areas ( portrait , fashion , swimwear, lingerie, nude , nude , fetish). The sedcards are also used to present reference images. Depending on the user status (see VIP program below), it is also possible to accommodate videos, galleries and more on the sedcard.
In order to use the model card index, it is necessary to register a user name, stating your own email address and some personal data. Sedcards must be activated by the team of moderators and must meet the minimum requirements for the respective sedcard type (model, photographer, studio, make-up artist, producer, advertising agency, photo editor, model agency, illustrator, media company, body painter, hairstylist, stylist).
In addition, the model card index uses a system to verify the authenticity of the users. This can be done by sending in a copy of the ID or by confirming the authenticity by means of a current photo comparison.
In addition, a forum is available to users with various thematic areas between photography, image processing and general small talk. Registered users can communicate with each other with the help of private messages, organize themselves in networks and set up groups, which in turn have their own forum.
For the organization of photo shoots there are so-called job advertisements on model-kartei.de, in which certain framework conditions are specified and to which other members can then apply. It is also possible to advertise events or to register for advertised events. these can be round tables, workshops, exhibitions or trade fairs or photo exchanges.
Carried out photo shoots can be rated positively, neutrally or negatively with the help of a rating system and commented on by all participants. These ratings and comments are publicly available via the respective sedcards.
Protection of minors
Posts in the forum and sedcards are checked for violations of the terms of use by moderators. Uploaded photos, especially from underage users, are checked by our own photo team. If a user violates the guidelines, he can be excluded from the community. Any user can report such violations to the moderators of ModelKartei.de. In addition to the moderators and the picture team, there are mentors who are supposed to take on a supportive role for newcomers and can help with problems there if necessary.
Image content relevant to the protection of minors must be marked accordingly by the users themselves according to the image rules (is also checked on a random basis and can be "reported" in each case). Corresponding content is not visible for users who are not registered in the community, and this image content is also hidden for users under the age of 18. Certain work areas to be specified on the sedcard are also not available to underage users.
An important aspect of the youth protection function is the authenticity check mentioned elsewhere. Without having provided proof of authenticity, it is not possible for photographers to write to underage models.
financing
ModelKartei.de is financed through mixed financing. On the one hand, this includes a VIP system, in which additional services are activated for a half-yearly or annual payment. These include a. switching off advertising, an increased number of network / favorite entries and images on the sedcard, more conversations per day and larger images in "XXL format". Another part of the financing is done through advertisements in the form of banner advertisements and the like.

criticism
Nude photos presented online have already had negative consequences for the models. Miss Magdeburg, who was chosen in 2006, was allegedly withdrawn from her title after one day because of her pictures on ModelKartei.de
Bad experiences with other users of the model card index may only be submitted via the shooting rating system. When threatened with blocking, users are prohibited from disclosing people with whom they have had bad experiences on their own sedcard or in the forum. This measure is intended to protect the Model file from legal consequences, as otherwise it could be held liable for defamation.
Similar services
In addition to model-kartei.de, there are other online communities for personal photography that are similar in terms of offer or specialize in specific genres (e.g. Gothic models). Internationally, Model Mayhem is the largest community with a global Alexa traffic rank of 1189 and more than half a million sedcards (as of March 2012).
